We ended up 4th in the 3rd Division in the Redhill League, which was brilliant considering the start to this season was shaky, as we started with only ten players. We lost 4 players to Sutton Utd and one turned semi pro, but we battled on and grew strong as the season went on with some new players. This league was hard and tough, with some strong teams in it, so we are pleased with our achievement and hope next season will bring bigger and brighter things.

We started the season with thirteen players having acquired Kiera Hewett-Brown (midfield) over the summer. In the seven a-side format of the game you can only field ten players which means resting three players each week. Whilst we felt that would be a challenging task we were also mindful of the need to strengthen the squad for the transistion to the 11-a-side format in 2008-09.
Well, who could have predicted it, even with thirteen players, by the January we had been so beset with injuries it looked like we were going to have to field our number one supporter Terry (with a "y" not an "i", if you get my drift). Enough said!
Our season started with a loss to AFC Wimbledon, and even though we were without our no 1 keeper it was a game we could have won and really that loss set us up for a very tricky next few games. That said, we began to find a bit our form, but by October the injuries started to creep in.
League Cup: We had a great win against Kingstonian Youth in the preliminary round, and then beat Leatherhead by a single goal in the first round proper. We then went on to beat Queens Park Rangers to secure a place in the semi final. Unfortunately due to bad weather and a Surrey FA league ruling we were unable to represent ourselves in the semi final and the game was awarded to the opposition. Well done to the team for getting so close.
County Cup: Having won our first game we were confident of doing well in this competition and then we met Camberley Town. All too often you hear coaches and managers making excuses for poor performances; but this game was something of a spectacle. In short it was just a great game to watch and for the girls to play in. We lost 2-1 but we played out of our skins and just came up against a better team who only lost the final on penalties.
The League: We finished 5th, which, if you had offered the big man (our coach Jerry Franks) at the start of the season, I am sure he would have said, “No ta”, or words to that effect! However, by the end of the season we were all, parents, grandparents and players alike, happy with what we had achieved, proud of our performances and each of us having gained a little more perspective of how precious the commodity of time really is.
See you all next season and welcome to Jess, Emily and Laura our summer buys.
Goals: Couzens 26, S. Lockyer 8, Hewett-Brown 4, Eaton 3, Franks 3, Barron 1, Okone 1, Rigelhuth 1

After an enjoyable but not very successful campaign last season there were a few Ins and Outs to get us ready for another title challenge. With two new centre backs and a new pairing in centre midfield it was always going to take a couple of games to get into our stride. Our biggest problem last season was scoring goals and a 20 goal a season striker was top of our shopping list. Team coach Jerry Franks got a couple of interesting names off the Internet but the first flight out of Cameroon on a Sunday morning was at 8.38am so a 10 o'clock kick off at John Fisher would be a bit of a problem! So I shuffled the pack and the goals would have to be a team responsibility.
The results in the league were ticking along nicely and by November we had a squad of 17 and were turning away some good players. However, within a month, two of our most creative players Dougie and Isham had other commitments and so the squad began to get a bit threadbare on Sunday mornings.
One of those mornings was our first outing in the Surrey Cup away at Hampton Rangers. We arrived late with 10 men to find out we was being watched by a friendly chap in wellies and a dirty mack who was the Chief Executive of the FA, Brian Barwick, whose son was representing the opposition. We were under a bit of pressure from the start and things soon got worse when Sam started running like he had a bag of sand tied to his leg, so his normal position of right back had to be switched to 2nd striker for the second half. With a new formation of 3-4-1-and-a-cripple we hung on until 80 mins when Bleachy our big centre back sent a great header into the top corner. At that moment I was expecting Mr Barwick to come straight over with a contract for me to sign as I was £4.999.995 cheaper than Capello but he decided to pay the extra...
One of the biggest games of the season was the League Cup Semi away at South Bank. We had beaten them 3-0 in the league so knew if we kept it tight first half we could have a nice day out to look forward to at a final. But the plan went pear shaped before I had even set my watch and we were 1 down in 30 seconds. Three more followed that half which was a too bigger hurdle to climb second half although the guys did manage to get 3 back, it finished 5-3.
Our Surrey Cup run came to a end at Purley Way in the last 16 to Kingstonian but the league was still in our hands but with all the big boys to play in the last month of the season it would go right to the wire. The squad was now 13, but a very committed 13 who could be relied on 100%.
We had a little wobble away at Coulsdon Athletic, where we needed a late Neil Fleming goal to nick a point, but when the big games came we showed our quality and went back to South Bank our closest challengers on the last day with our first A Division title wrapped up and got clapped onto the pitch by a very sporting team. To rub salt into the wounds we won 2-0.

We came Runners Up in the Tandridge Central Division. We started the league very strong and were unbeaten. Things went downhill when we lost the chance to make the final of the League Trophy to Old Coulsdon Colts B, then had a 5 week spell of not playing due to the weather conditions - the boys got a bit down in the dumps. We picked our game up and then a big blow came when we lost 2 key players to injury which meant we were usually playing with a bare 11-man team. The game we needed to win in April against Wickham Wanderers for the League title we lost due to only having 10 men available. In spite of winning promotion we are very disappointed not to have won the League outright, but next season we will bounce back - watch this space!

The 2007-08 season saw the introduction of 7 new players to an existing squad of 10 players. With a great pre-season under our belts (3 wins and a draw), great things were expected from this group of players. Unfortunately this potential was not realized and the team struggled in the first part of the season. By Christmas the team had achieved a meager 4 points, having played 8 games, won 1, drawn 2, lost 5.
After reviewing the way the team defended and the shape of the team in different parts of the pitch (thanks greatly to Keith Wilkinson for his input here), the boys began to see a better reward for their efforts. In the 14 games played since the beginning of this year, the team have won 4, drawn 8, lost 2. They finished 8th in the league with 20 points. This is the most points the team have accrued in the A Division, and the first time the goal difference at the end of the season was not negative.
Whilst this was a credible effort this season, the team now know they are hard to beat, are disciplined and have a sound basis for improvement next season. The players ended the season on a positive note by winning the shield trophy at the recent Palace Guard 7-a-side tournament.

Having secured the A Division championship last season this term commenced with very high expectations given the strength and quality of the squad assembled. With a desire and committment to play in the Hamsey "style and culture" of "swift pass and move", it was particularly pleasing to report that the squad was able to retain its title again this year. The season however was very tough and challenging on the boys with a mid-season poor run of form being principally attributed to the loss and absence of key players at a crucial time with Andrew Bryan moving on to Crystal Palace and Ben Gubby on trial with Fulham. Nevertheless, it was a credit to the boys that they continued to battle to win the Championship - if only by a single point. In the League and Surrey Cups, our form was less impressive, narrowly losing to Moonshot and Epsom Eagles respectively, the latter going on to lose a close final to AFC Wimbledon.
Nevertheless, the elevation of Charlie Burns provided security in the goalkeeping position, well protected by maturing defensive partnerships involving Jordan Henry, Markel Orlebar, Jake Little, Nicholas Burns and Danny Fisher, all producing consistent performances throughout the season. In midfield creativity and drive was provided by Connor Robertson, Michael Hart and Lewis Gallagher, whilst the free scoring Connor Callaghan provided the necessary offensive penitration. Up front, the mobilty of Daniel Wilkinson, Aaron Sonaton and Ziggy Lungu caused significant problems for most opposing defences.
Many of the boys successfully played for the Tandridge League representative side with the anticipated dignity and pride and reached the runners up position in the Inter-League Trophy through the course of the season against extremely tough opposition.
Managers' Player of the Year was awarded to Declan Smith for his leadership and encouragement both on and off the field as captain of the squad, whilst Most Improved Player went to Kareem Clarke principally due to the fact that a successful transition was made from the professional academy ranks with Crystal Palace to blend very successfully within the team environment encouraged at Hamsey. Special mention goes Trevor Smith as Head Coach and Randell Henry manager of the U13 Colts - the development of which represents a key strategic initiative for the management team next season - for their enthusiasm and desire to ensure that, from a coaching standpoint, all the boys maximise the opportunity provided to improve their level of technical ability and potential.
Over the course of next season the planned strategy remains unchanged. Focus principally through progressive management and coaching principles will continue to differentiate an improving squad and ensure that the standards set and expected are upheld and executed. Emphasis will continue to be placed on development of essential technical skill, strategic positioning as well as improve mental awareness, strength and character. We would like to thank our peers within a very strong and competitive Tandridge League for their sporting displays this season and we look forward to re-uniting next term. Well done boys.

With a third place finish in the club’s pre-season tournament, the A team started the season with hopes of challenging for promotion. Indeed, maximum points from their opening two games did little to dampen those expectations. Unfortunately that early optimism proved to be ill-founded.
Overall, the season was an improvement on 2006-07 in that we won more games than we lost, conceded less goals than the previous season (whilst also scoring less!) and finished in 7th place (higher then before). The lads also had a positive goal difference, for the second consecutive season.
The highlight of the season had to be the 10-0 victory away at basement club Wandsworth Wanderers. Other good performances were against eventual Champions Orpington Rovers, where we saw two goal leads slip away for the Hamsey boys to be beaten by the odd goal on both occasions.
An unfortunate draw in both the League Cup and League Shield, saw the team drawn against Stanhope in both the Cup (losing on penalty shoot-out, after extra time) and then again in the Shield (losing after extra time!), although the Under 10 B team restored some pride for the club by beating Stanhope in the following round of The Shield!
Again, the lads ended the season strongly, losing just one of their final six matches - and that to the Division’s runners-up, Wandle Wanderers. (In both matches against Wandle, the lads scored 4 goals - with Wandle only conceding 19 in the whole season).
Ian announced that he would be unable to continue running the team and a successor was not found, so there will only be one Hamsey team at under 11 in 2008-09. Thanks go to Ian for his efforts during the past three years.
At the Club’s awards night on 21 June, the following trophies were awarded:
Players Player of the Year - Simon Whelan
Supporters Player of the Year – Simon Whelan
Top Goalscorer – Sonny Barton
Most Improved Player – Jake Hilling
Manager’s Player of The Year – Sonny Barton

After the disappointment of finishing 3rd (and 1 agonising point short of promotion) in a strong South Division last season, manager Mick Leech sent his charges out for the first game of new West Division with the mantra "one win from the title", the plan being to send out a positive message of intent. After a shaky start, where an early win was followed by dropped points at home in tough encounters against Croydon Athletic and Palace Guard, we found ourselves in mid-table after 3 games - not where we wanted to be!
We refound our winning habit, though, with 3 thumping wins before a disappointing defeat on our bogey ground, up at Corrigan Avenue against Coulsdon Athletic, left us still in mid-table after 7 games.
The poor winter weather then led to a number of postponements, which meant that even though we were winning the games we were playing we were still playing catch up with the promotion pack. However, that defeat at Coulsdon would be the last time we would drop points this season, as 8 straight wins (including wins "with interest" against all our rivals who had taken points off us earlier in the season) took us to the top of the table and ultimately a well deserved League title. We had the best attack, the best defence and, in the end, the best record.
In terms of high points of the season, we have to mention our run to the Quarter Finals of the League Shield, where out of the final 8 we were the lowest ranked team left in the competition. The run included an extra time 4-3 win at Orpington Blue (who themselves only dropped 1 point as they won their division) and a 2-1 win from a goal down at C Division Stanhope (who had proved a bogey team to our A Team in the previous round). We also have to include our thumping 8-1 win at promotion rivals Palace Guard, probably our most complete team performance of the whole season.
So all in all a highly satisfying season, where all 10 squad members contributed, whether through attacking brilliance or through defensive excellence. We now look forward to next season and the move to the 11-a-side game, which we hope will be another exciting adventure for a great bunch of lads. Can't wait!

Our first season in league competition started with a new management team of Michael "Avram" Trayfoot and Nick "Jose" Tagg. Having developed a good team spirit in the previous season under the veteran Jim Weeks, and with the addition of Miles and Tele to the squad, we started the season with high hopes but no great expectations - other than to try our best to play good passing football and to be well organised.
The season got off to a flyer with 3 wins, 18 goals scored and only 4 conceded! Our passing from back to front was really too good for our opposition in the early games, and with Regan "the Wizard" Dellaway up front we had found a goalscorer with the Midas touch capable of both the spectacular individual goal and the cool finish to one of our many sweeping moves. Even at this early stage we were looking like real title contenders. However, we were soon to be handed one of our few defeats against Tunbridge Wells Foresters who, in their first Tandridge season, were obviously too strong for all opponents and were clearly capable of playing in a higher division. Despite the setback of our early defeat we came back strongly to record 5 consecutive league victories including possibly our best performance, a magnificent 5-0 away win at Westerham Tigers, our nearest challengers in the table.
We really were developing into a strong and resilient team: - Shayan the most reluctant keeper but also the bravest proving to be a real unsung hero between the posts, along with Jack and Mitchell at the back who went about their business in a calm and unflustered way, often turning defence into attack with measured passing to the powerhouse midfield of Miles, Marcus, Tom and Demmi. The midfield regularly mixed strength and determination with genuine quality on the ball and an eye for goal too. Tele was proving to be a real tenacious terrier, either at the back or in midfield, often making the brave last ditch tackle or the surging run to start another attack. In Darius and Regan we knew that we had goalscorers who would finish off our moves and with regular goal contributions from our midfield 4 we looked like scoring in every game. Despite disappointing early Cup exits in December and January, the team retained a great spirit in the league finishing the season strongly with 8 straight wins to deservedly claim runners up spot.
Looking back over the season a record of 16 wins, 1 draw and only 3 defeats might well have been good enough to win the league in any other another season. Huge praise must go to every single member of the squad who worked so hard for each other and also individually improved their skills to become a well balanced and successful team. Finally, we cannot possibly finish without mentioning our thanks to all parents and relatives for their massive support throughout the season. Also thanks to Louis for agreeing to referee home matches for us.
It has been great to watch the team develop and enjoy their football and was capped off by gaining promotion - roll on next season!
